England beat Australia again.............

Victories against Australia is always sweet, and the rugby on Saturday morning, and now 2 one day cricket matches this week, mean it's been a great sporting week. Italy crash out of the world cup, England stay in, Wimbledon sees the longest, and most boring, game ever, but the big sports news of the week is still THE TAPPIN CUP. Captain Swagger will post his report here soon- bet you can't wait to read all about it ?

This years Tappin Cup saw an interesting battle between the old and the new with a Sammy Smith's VIII taking on an Ed Squires' VIII.Yeah, that's right the mathematically aware of you will have worked out that we only had 16 players this year. A little bit disappointing but well done to all of you that turned up and boo hiss to those of you that didn't.
Anyhow onto the game. Smithy's side batted first with Techno Hessey giving Tompy some almighty tap. The Tompinator got him in the end but not before Nigel had hit him for 26 in 2 overs.Swagger in next who carried his bat for a steady if not spectacular 31. Young Harry made a solid 15, Wicksy somehow got himself bowled by Volvo(talk us through that shot again Matt) and Sammy got bowled by some ordinary teacher type. An honourable mention for young Georgia on her debut who in scoring 1 run ensured that the Duck hat remained firmly on Tompy's head! Oh I nearly forgot, Fletch played a twat of a shot to give Bomber a wicket, nice one Fletch.
Chasing 131 to win the game was always going to be a tall order without the added handicap of Bomber and the Bully opening.Anyway Jay Jarni Jaimini Yadda Yadda Yadda was promptly sent back with Fletch bowling him first ball much to the delight of his own team mate Tompy who couldn't wait to relinquish the duck hat and install it on Jay's pudgy little head.Swagger got Bomber's wicket as he always does with one of those devilish straight ones and the Squires VIII were rocking.Cue Mr Glover. In a typical crash bang wallop innings, Charlie started giving his team the belief that they could get near the required total. All he needed was some support.Cue Lockey who became 9yr old Georgia Haworth's first wicket for Moreton, well bowled Georgia. Ha ha Lockey! Captain Smith led from the front in bowling Volvo for 1 and then possibly the champagne moment of the game came with Tompy trying to do to Sammy what he does to opposition bowlers and smack him for six. However he hadn't banked on Harry 'Bucket Hands' Curtis who plucked the ball out of the air at long on for the second superb catch of his short Moreton career. Well done Harry, a promising future awaits you. What this meant was that the duck hat was promptly returned to poor old Tompy after a 23 minute sojourn on Jay's head. Then all of a sudden the VIII became IX with young Fenn finally turning up and going out to bat with his dad. Could the Glovers win the Tappin Cup for the Squires'IX? Well young Fenn certainly seemed to think so cruising along to 12 not out before his old man let him down by getting bowled by Techno leaving him high and dry 17 runs short of the required total. Good knock from Charlie though with a PB of 44.
All this meant was that Smithy at his first attempt had secured the Tappin Cup, presented to him by his mummy who gave him a nice big kiss to boot.
Well done to everyone who played in what turned out to be a a very enjoyable game of cricket.

Anyone spotted that Capt S. Wagger is turning into a bit of a batsman ?
